How do I rent keyless cars?

Some of our car models are keyless, meaning you don't need a car key to unlock the car or start the engine. These cars use Start/Stop buttons instead.

Here's how it works:

  1. Locate a car near you using the app.
  2. Tap 'Reserve' and make it yours.
  3. When you're at the car, tap 'Start' in the app.
  4. Use Face-ID or enter your 4-digit PIN.
  5. The car unlocks automatically.
  6. To start the engine, press the Start/Stop button.
  7. Arrived at your destination? End the trip via the app.
How do I rent cars with car keys?

Most of our cars have car keys.

Here's how it works:

  1. Locate a car near you using the app.

  5. The car unlocks automatically.
  6. You'll find the car key in the glove compartment.
  7. Arrived at your destination? Place the key back into the holder.
  8. End the trip via the app.
What is a magic PIN?

The magic PIN is your key to the all SHARE NOW cars. When you first register, you need to set your personal 4-digit magic PIN.

Basically, you need to enter this PIN in the SHARE NOW app each time you want to unlock a car.

It's like magic. Easy as that.

What should I do if the engine doesn’t start?

Relax. In most cases, there’s nothing wrong with the car. As a safety measure, we remotely lock the engine so that the car can’t be driven off while you’re away. When you’re ready to drive again, simply unlock the engine via the app. If that doesn’t work, remove the car key from ignition and try again.

What do I have to bear in mind when returning the car?

You should note the following points when returning the car:

  • The car has a full tank of petrol
  • Windscreen wiper fluid is topped up
  • Copy of vehicle registration document and vehicle key is present
  • The accessories are complete (warning waistcoat, warning triangle, first aid kit)
  • The car is completely cleaned (inside/outside)
  • All your valuables are removed from the vehicle
How can I log in to my SHARE NOW account?

The SHARE NOW app is not only the key to our cars, but also the key to your car-sharing account.

You can log in to your SHARE NOW account directly via the app. From here you can edit your personal details, manage your payment profiles, validate your driver's licence, download your invoices, and adjust your mailing and privacy preferences.

Can I park the car in an underground garage with no internet connection?

Sure. Ultimately, you only need a working internet connection to start and end your trip. Stopovers are no problem at all.

If you make a stopover, just keep the car key and your smartphone on you – and you'll have nothing to worry about:

Cars with Keyless Start: Stand near the car and use the SHARE NOW app to unlock the car via Bluetooth. Start the engine once you're in the car.

Cars with keys: Use the car key to get in and start your engine as usual.

How does the delivery and pick-up work?

When signing the contract, you have the option of selecting delivery and/or collection of your vehicle at your desired location (e.g. home address) anywhere within Germany.

  • These additional services are subject to a one-off fee, which is payable when you sign the contract.
  • You can then sit back and relax and wait until your vehicle is delivered to you by us or one of our partners.
  • For the handover of the vehicle, please open the email from Free2move with the link to the self-inspection and after you have completed it, you will receive 1 x key and the vehicle documents.
  • Please bring your driver's license and an identification document for the pick-up.



Please note:
The handover must always be carried out by the owner. If there is a delay on your side, please contact us as early as possible but at least 48 hours in advance (otherwise additional costs may be charged).

How can I park and keep my car?

Doing a stopover with SHARE NOW is easy. First, park the car and shut all doors and windows. The next steps depends on the car:

Keyless cars:

  • In the app, select Manage Trip ▶ Stopover. This will lock the doors.
  • To continue driving, open the app and select Manage Trip ▶ Continue trip. This will unlock the doors.
  • To end your trip, park the car and shut all doors and windows. In the app, select Manage Trip ▶ End trip.

Cars with keys:

  • Use the car key to lock up the car and make sure to take the car key with you!
  • To continue driving, simply open the car with the key again. You do not have to do anything in the app.
  • To end your trip, park the car and place the car key back into the key card holder. Make sure doors and windows are closed. In the app, select Manage Trip ▶ End trip.

Important: Stopover time counts as part of your total trip duration. If you have selected an hourly or daily rate, stopover time will continue to use up the time you have booked. If you have selected the minute rate, stopover time will be billed according to the minute rate.
