Getting Started

Who can use SHARE NOW?

Pretty much anyone who can legally drive can use SHARE NOW. To register, you need to fulfill the following requirements:

✓ You should be at least 18 years old
✓ You possess a valid driver's license suitable for driving cars (category B)
✓ You possess a valid email address
✓ You possess a smartphone (iOS or Android)

Easy as that.

What driver's licenses do you accept?

Your driver's license must be suitable for driving cars (category B). We accept driving licences issued in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and in Switzerland.

We also accept international driver's licenses if they meet certain conditions. In case the app doesn't automatically validate your driver's license, please contact Customer Support – we'd be glad to help you validate manually.

How do I upload my driver's license?

Simply upload your driver's license in the SHARE NOW app – no need to visit a rental office. You'll also be asked to upload a selfie of yourself, so we can verify it really is you.

Validation typically takes less than 3 working days. To ensure your driver's license will be accepted, please make sure you upload clearly legible full colour photos of the front and back of your driver's license. Your license should be lying on a flat surface.

Important: In Germany, Italy, and Spain, we're obliged to check the validity of your driver's license every 3 years.

What is a magic PIN?

The magic PIN is your key to the all SHARE NOW cars. When you first register, you need to set your personal 4-digit magic PIN.

Basically, you need to enter this PIN in the SHARE NOW app each time you want to unlock a car.

It's like magic. Easy as that.

Do you accept international driver's licenses?

Yes. We accept driver’s licenses issued in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland. If you have a foreign driver's license, e.g. a French license in Germany, you may be asked to provide additional documentation to validate your license. If you have a doubt, please contact Customer Support – we'd be happy to help you validate your driver's license manually.

Non-EU/EEA/Swiss driver's licenses are valid for 6 months from first entry in the EU/EEA/Switzerland. You may be asked to provide additional documentation to validate your license:

  • A certified translation of your driver's license (or an International Driver's Permit)
  • Your passport
  • Proof of address in Spain
  • Proof of date of entry into Spain (e.g. boarding pass, entry visa, proof of residence)
  • Your driver's license must have been valid for at least 1 year

The International Driver's Permit is valid as long as it authorizes you to drive in Spain. However, the IDP is not a substitute for your original driver's license. You should still have your passport and your original driver's license with you while driving.

What are these scary Android app permissions the SHARE NOW app is asking for?

After you download and open the SHARE NOW app, your Android mobile device will ask you for "permissions". Permissions are special privileges that apps must ask for if they want to access data or functions on your phone. For example, if you'd like to find a car near you, the SHARE NOW app will ask for permission to see your exact location. Some apps ask for more permissions than necessary – not cool. We ask for the bare necessities so that the SHARE NOW app will work well for you.

To improve GPS location quality, so that your location is as precise as possible on the map:
android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE

To secure your login in the SHARE NOW app:
android.permission.AUTHENTICATE_ACCOUNTS maxSdkVersion=22
android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS maxSdkVersion=22
android.permission.MANAGE_ACCOUNTS maxSdkVersion=22
android.permission.USE_CREDENTIALS maxSdkVersion=22

Internet access – necessary for displaying available cars:
android.permission.INTERNET

To support in-app driver's licence validation:
android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE maxSdkVersion=22
android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

To support push messaging for the radar feature:
android.permission.VIBRATE
android.permission.WAKE_LOCK
android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE
android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED
android.permission.WRITE_SETTINGS
android.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
android.permission.ACCESS_DOWNLOAD_MANAGER

To enable fingerprint authentication (instead of your magic PIN) to unlock cars:
android.permission.USE_FINGERPRINT

For Google Maps and Google Cloud Messaging:
com.google.android.providers.gsf.permission.READ_GSERVICES

Is the SHARE NOW app supported on my smartphone?

The SHARE NOW app is available for iOS (Version 10 or newer) and Android (Version 6.0 or newer). If you experience issues with the SHARE NOW app on your smartphone, please try updating to the latest app version.

What is the fiscal code?

Spanish citizens:
The fiscal code, Número de Identificación Fiscal (NIF) is a form of tax identification in Spain, and is exactly the same as your DNI (identity card).

Non-Spanish citizens:
The fiscal code (NIF) is the same as the Foreigner’s Identification Number (NIE), which is assigned to non-Spanish persons living in Spain. If you don’t have a Número de Identidad de Extranjero (NIE), you can obtain more information by contacting the Spanish National Police.
